Hi All,
WELCOME TO FIS307 MARINE ECOLOGY.
As an introduction, I would like to further explain to you what this unit is. The unit is concerned primarily with the marine ecosystem population, taxonomy and community ecology in marine ecosystems, including hard and soft shores, mangroves, deep ocean and others. Life histories, characteristics of populations and interactions within and among species of plants, animals and micro-organisms provide the basis for understanding ecological principles. And also conducting survey and monitoring of coral reefs by means of different methods used. It covers the complexities of various ecosystems associated with our global ocean and biology of a variety of marine organisms.
Furthermore, current issues involving complexities of organisms of marine ecosystems and human usage are discussed, including fisheries, marine protected areas, marine networks, pollution impacts and climate change. A variety of aspects relating to the structure and function of marine ecosystems and communities are deliberated in this unit. Consideration will also be given to relevant marine organism physiology. The application of these concepts to local Pacific region marine ecosystems, especially Solomon Islands is a particular focus.
With that, I hope this unit will enhance your knowledge of marine ecology and with whatever skills and knowledge you will garner, it will help further your knowledge on this subject.
