This session is an opportunity to learn about early detection, prevention, and support for those affected by breast cancer.
Male staff are also welcome to attend if they wish to learn and show support as everyone’s participation is appreciated.
💗 Pink-Themed Day
Tomorrow is also our Pink-Themed Day. We encourage everyone to wear something pink in solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer. Let’s fill the campus with pink and show our support.

Why This Matters
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the Solomon Islands and remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Cases are rising, including among young women in their 20s and 30s (source).
Early detection saves lives. Women who regularly check for symptoms, undergo screenings, and seek treatment promptly have a significantly higher chance of successful recovery. However, many women in the Solomon Islands face limited access to healthcare and low awareness, which can delay diagnosis and treatment.
Breast cancer affects not only individuals but also families and communities. Raising awareness helps empower women to take charge of their health, encourages support networks, and reduces stigma.
According to a 2024 study in Frontiers in Oncology, the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of breast cancer in women in the Solomon Islands is 6.43 per 100,000 (source), emphasizing the urgent need for education, screening, and preventive action.
Attending this session is an opportunity to learn the facts, understand the risks, and take action, knowledge that could save lives.
Together, as a university community, we can raise awareness, support those affected, and make a meaningful impact. We look forward to seeing you in pink! 💗
